Hey there! 👋

When I started hiring someone to help with client onboarding, they asked me: "What's the process?"

And I said: "Uh... I just kind of... do it?" 😅

That's when I realized I had been running my entire business out of my head for two years. Every process, every workflow, every detail lived exclusively in my brain. 🧠

Which meant nobody could help me without me explaining everything because I was the bottleneck. I couldn't scale, couldn't take time off, and couldn't stop being the person who knew where everything was.

So I did the thing I had been avoiding for months: I started writing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). 📝

Here's what I learned:

They're Not As Scary As You Think 👻

An SOP doesn't need to be a 47-page manual. It can literally be a Google Doc that says:

"When a new client signs up:

  1. Send welcome email (template in folder)

  2. Schedule kick-off call

  3. Add to project management system

  4. Send onboarding questionnaire"

That's it. The goal isn't perfection - it's getting it out of your head and onto a page so someone else can follow it.

They Save You From Yourself 🙌

Without SOPs, you forget steps, reinvent the wheel every time, and waste mental energy remembering things that should be automated.

With SOPs, you don't have to remember. You just follow the doc. It's like past you leaving detailed instructions for future you.

They're The Best Way To Properly Delegate 🤝

You can't delegate what you can't explain. And you can't explain what you haven't documented.

Every time I tried to hand something off without an SOP, it turned into 20 questions and me just doing it myself because "it's faster." 😤

With an SOP? They follow the steps. They get it right. I don't have to micromanage.

Start Small 🎯

Don't try to document everything at once. Start with the one thing you do most often.

For me, it was client onboarding. I spent 30 minutes writing down every step. Now my team can onboard clients without me.

That 30 minutes bought me back hours every month.

The "As You Go" Method 🚀

Next time you do something repetitive, open a Google Doc and write down each step as you do it. (or use a tool like Loom or Scribe) You're doing the work anyway - just capture it while you do.

What Changed For Me 💫

Before SOPs: I was the bottleneck in every process

After SOPs: My team runs entire workflows without asking me a single question

The difference? Freedom. 🎉

SOPs aren't sexy. They won't make you go viral. But they're the difference between a business that depends on you showing up every single day and a business that runs even when you're not there.

Start with one SOP this week. Document the thing you do most often. Write it down like you're explaining it to someone who's never done it before.

Your future self will thank you. 🙏
