🤔 To Niche, or Not to Niche: My Identity “Crisis” as a Multi-Hyphenate Creator

How I'm Learning to Embrace the Beautiful Mess of Being Everything at Once

Hey there! đź‘‹

First things first, my meetup made it into PanelPicker for SXSW 2026 and I need your help! Please take a moment to vote for the meetup I’m co-hosting with Colin Rocker: B2B Creator and Brand Marketers Meetup

Ok, housekeeping over… now can we talk about something that's been keeping me up at night? (And not just because I'm writing this from a different time zone again...)

I've been having a full-blown identity crisis about my "niche." You know that advice everyone gives creators: "Pick one thing and stick to it!" Well, what happens when you're genuinely passionate about multiple things and they all somehow connect to create who you are?

Here's my current reality: I'm a business operations expert helping scale a company, the self-proclaimed Creator Fairy Godmother helping creators build sustainable businesses, AND a digital nomad figuring out how to run everything from coffee shops across three time zones. Oh, and I'm trying to figure out my own identity as a business owner in the middle of all this.

Talk about a personal brand puzzle! 🧩

The "Stay in Your Lane" Pressure

Every marketing guru tells us to pick one lane and dominate it. "Be known for ONE thing!" they say. "Confusion kills conversions!"

But here's what I'm learning: sometimes the magic happens at the intersections.

My operations background gives me unique insights into creator business systems. My nomad lifestyle forces me to create workflows that actually work from anywhere. My role scaling a company shows me what creators need to prepare for growth. And being the Creator Fairy Godmother? Well, that's just who I am when I see someone struggling with the same challenges I've faced.

These aren't separate identities competing for attention. They're complementary skills that make me better at helping creators build sustainable, scalable businesses.

When Your "Niche" is Actually Your Superpower

Instead of fighting my multi-hyphenate nature, I'm starting to embrace it. Here's what I've discovered:

Your diverse experience creates unique value. The creator who's also a mom brings parenting lessons to time management. The designer who's also a therapist understands user psychology differently. Your seemingly unrelated skills often create your most powerful insights.

Authenticity beats artificial narrowing. People connect with real humans, not perfectly curated brands. When I share my nomad struggles with client calls during flight delays, or my COO perspective on creator business challenges, it resonates because it's genuine.

Your audience finds YOU, not just your topic. The creators who engage most with my content aren't just looking for operations advice. They're building businesses that support their lifestyle goals, just like I am.

Finding Your Thread

If you're struggling with the niche question too, try this: instead of asking "What's my niche?" ask "What's my thread?"

What's the common thread connecting everything you do? For me, it's helping creators build businesses that actually work for their lives, not against them. Whether that's through operations systems, nomad-friendly workflows, or fairy godmother-style guidance, the thread is the same.

Your thread might be empowerment, creativity, efficiency, or something completely different. But once you find it, everything else starts making sense.

Permission to Be Multifaceted

Here's what I wish someone had told me earlier: you don't have to squeeze yourself into a neat little box to be successful. Your complexity might actually be your competitive advantage.

The creators I work with don't want robot advice. They want real strategies from someone who understands that business building is messy, identity is evolving, and sometimes the best solutions come from unexpected combinations of experience.

So whether you're a fitness trainer who loves finance, a designer with a coaching heart, or a nomad trying to figure out how all your pieces fit together, remember this: your multifaceted nature isn't a problem to solve. It might just be your secret weapon.

So spend some time this weekend and ask yourself… What's your thread?
