Hey there! 👋

When I look at my conference budget, I make sure every line item earns its place. Tickets, flights, hotels, logistics - it adds up fast. So if I'm going to invest in being in the room, I want every event to pull serious weight.

The shift that changed everything? I stopped treating conferences like just networking events and started treating them like content goldmines.

Now every conference I attend generates 30+ content ideas. Same events, completely different ROI.

The Conference Content System

Before the Event (5-7 pieces)

Most people wait until they're at the conference to think about content. I start before I even pack.

Pre-event content you can create:

  • "I'm heading to [Conference] - here's what I'm hoping to learn"

  • Poll asking my audience what questions they want answered

  • Preview of the sessions I'm most excited about

  • Behind-the-scenes prep content

  • "Meet me there" post for networking

During the Event (10-15 pieces)

This is where most creators show up, but they're still leaving content on the table.

You can capture:

  • Quick takeaways from each session (one post per session)

  • Speaker quotes that resonated (with proper credit)

  • Hallway / elevator conversations and insights

  • People I met and why they're interesting

  • Real-time reactions to surprising moments

Pro tip: voice memos are everything. Between sessions, I record my thoughts while they're fresh. These become the foundation for everything else.

After the Event (15-20 pieces)

Here's where the real magic happens. Most people post one "conference recap" and move on but that’s just getting started!

Post-event content breakdown:

  • Detailed recap newsletter (like this one)

  • 3-5 LinkedIn posts diving deep into specific learnings

  • Instagram carousel with visual highlights

  • Video or short-form series with behind-the-scenes moments

  • Updated blog posts incorporating new insights

  • Email to clients with relevant takeaways

Don’t forget to repurpose your content! — Giphy

The Repurposing Strategy

One conference session can become:

  • A quote post (immediate)

  • A detailed breakdown post (within a week)

  • A newsletter topic (within a month)

  • A framework you teach (ongoing)

I'm not creating 30 entirely new ideas. I'm taking 5-7 core learnings and distributing them across platforms and formats.

The Reality Check

Conferences are a real investment. If you're willing to commit the money and time, you might as well come home with more than a tote bag full of branded pens.

The difference between a conference that "was nice" and one that actually moves your business forward is what you do with what you learned.

Document everything. Share generously. Repurpose strategically.

Your next conference ticket just became a content budget line item.
